Magazine Cover: Peer Review

1. What is the name of the magazine that you looked at and who made it?
The magazine is called"Dance" and it is by Elisa Perez from period 4.

2. List two things you liked about the magazine cover
I love picture and how she got her subject still without a blur and the quality of the shot is great. I also like how the text wraps around the model's body because it emphasizes the importance of the dancer.

3. Suggest something to the creator to improve the cover
I would suggest to make the title white instead of black because right now you can't really read what the title says. I think think white would pop a little more to get the reader's attention.

4. Why did you pick this cover? Specifically what attracted your eyes.
The dancer. I've always been a fan of dancer portraits because they look really graceful when they a frozen in a photograph.

5. Is there a bar code?
Yes there is a bar code.

6. Did that make it more "magazine-like"?
The barcode did help it look more like a magazine because it looks like a real barcode you would find on a magazine anywhere as opposed to one that is cut in half like the other cover I saw.

7. Can you tell if it was a portrait or self-portrait?

I think it is a portrait because the camera is too high to be sitting on a ti pod and the girl in the photo is not the girl who posted the magazine. One of the header talks about an interview with Olivia Warren so I think the dancer's name is Olivia.

Step 3: Which photo do you like best? Why?

1. I like her 'connected' photo the best because of the angle that the photo is taken at. It really capture the connection between the two people better than if she would have take the photo from the front.

Step 4: Which is your least favorite image? Why?

2. My least favorite photo was the pose photograph. I don't think the photo was very thought out and maybe it was because the prompts were hard and they were looking for pictures, or maybe they needed one last picture and had no time left but the photo is a bit unorganized and not very well thought out like her other photos.

Step 5: Overall, make two positive statements about their pictures.

3. I really think she did a very good job on the quality of the photos shutter speed and exposure wise. I think they also did a very good job with the levels aspect of editing their photo because the colors are vibrant.

Step 6: Overall, what is one area that this person could improve upon in your opinion.

4. the person could improve on the creativity standpoint of her photography. I looked on other blogs and saw photos of the same iron grate and the same photo of two people holding hands for connected. The pictures are good quality but they could use some more creativity.

Step 7: Which prompt do you think they did the best portraying, from your perspective?

5. Pause. They had the perfect shutter speed so the she caught each and every individual stand of hair still as it was blowing through the wind. It gave a sense of the time that is frozen. I think the photo represented pause very well.

Step 8: Which prompt do you think they did the least successfully portray, from your perspective?

6. Pose because they didn't actually take a posed photo. There wasn't a specific pose that the subject was doing and there wasn't anything that made me think of the word pose when I saw the photograph.

b. leading lines, there are lines coming from the branches on the ground leading in the depths of the forest. balance is also present making the photo seem relaxed as if each tree was strategically placed there.

This website gave me a few tips on portrait shooting and how I can make my portraits better and more interesting. It takes about breaking certain rules, Bringing people out of their comfort zone or into it, and even how to release some of the tension of the models I photograph.
a.     Why did you pick this photo?
b.     What rules of photography do you see in the photo?
c.     Who took the photo?

a. This photo is just plain interesting and is kind of funny. It caught my eye when I was going through the website because it's random but intriguing. It also show the whole "getting people of their comfort zone" idea that the article talks about.
b. rule of thirds is present by the subject being off center in the photo. cropping is present by cropping out the man's head to focus more on the berry on his nose rather than his head.
c. A Photographer named Sebastian Anthony.

Model Posing

To go the website click here.

The website was a tutorial on how to pose as a model. It really stressed the fact that you had to be relaxed and natural when having picture of yourself taken. It also talked about how you should keep moving so you don't  look awkward and to forget the camera is even there. There was also a video on the website where they showed models working.

  1. What did you learn new today?
  2. How can you use this in my class later?
  3. Describe what you saw in the video.
  4. Try to figure out who made the video. If it was a photographer look them up on google and see if you can learn more about them.
  5. What did you learn new?

1.  I learned how to model which actually will help me tell people I take pictures of how to model and pose. This has always been a hard thing for me to do because I love taking pictures of people but I don't know how to tell them how to act.

2. When I go out on shoots and for projects I can now unitize these tips on the people I take photos of and it will make my photos better.

3. I saw a model in video taking photos I different outfits. It was really interesting because when she changed her clothes it was like personality changed too. Her actions reflected what she was wearing whether in was proper, crazy, funny, or dramatic.

4. The person who made the video was actually the model's husband!

5. What to tell my "models" so I can get better photos when I go out on photo shoot. This is a vital part of my photography skills and will benefit me throughout the rest of the year in this class.

Welcome Back!

This photo is one of my favorite of the year because it shows an important piece of history that will still be talked about for years. The shooting of an unarmed teen in Furguson Missouri was a big deal in the United States since the police officer who shot him was not deemed guilty. Throughout Missouri people were outraged and protested. This case is one that will be known for a long time.

This photo is also one of my favorites because I personally connect with it. To be able to marry someone that I love when I'm older is so great and I'm so thankful for it. People in country are finally given the right to be with someone no matter their gender or sexuality. This is breathtaking and I'm proud of my country for taking this huge step forward.

This is one of my favorites because just like the second one, we have taken a huge step in the right direction facing the issue of same-sex marriages. The pope announced that he didn't have anything against two people being together of the same sex. This was a worldly announcement and was so amazing.

1. What was the best song of 2014?

For the best song of 2014, I chose Blank Space by Taylor Swift. I chose this because I have listened to this song the most this year. when Taylor Swift dropped her new album, everybody was raving about how amazing it was. When Blank Space came out, the song was playing on the radio left and right and it instantly because the #1 song on iTunes and Amazon. Later on in the year, the music video came out and people were astonished about taylor new style of video and crazy look. Taylor Swift revolutionized the music industry yet again with her new song. I honestly think this song it the bomb.com

2. What was the best movie of 2014?

This movie left me and America's teenage girl population in tears. After reading the book I vowed I would be at the midnight showing of this movie. Honestly, this movie did a wonderful job of capturing the key moments of the book with out leaving out the amazing quirky parts too. This movie was just like book…Amazing. John green did an amazing job making sure that this movie fully captured the cute but also dreadfully sad moments of the story he wrote.

4. Who was the most important person of 2014?

Jennifer Lawrence has appeared in many movies, talk shows, and TV shows in the year of 2014 making her the most important person on 2014.She has become the inspiration for many teens in America being a strong female who isn't afraid to say what she thinks. Her funny and sarcastic yet bubbly personality has made her the spotlight of different talk shows and the entertainment industry. Jennifer is an amazing actress and she portrays a character in one of my favorite moves of all time, The Hunger Games.

5. What was the biggest sports OR entertainment story OR sports/entertainment person of 2014?

The biggest sports story of 2014 was the Fifa World Cup by far. This summer I went to an international camp for music and the world cup was all everybody was talking about. They even stopped a concert to announce who won the world cup! It was insane. although I don't like sports it was huge part of my summer because fit was all everybody talked about.

1. Tell me what is the one thing that happened on your holiday that you will remember? It can be a trip, a family visit, a present, something fun.
I WENT TO LONDON!!!!! it was an amazing trip because I got to see so much and people made a big deal about our band being there so we were basically celebrities. I got to ride the London Eye, see Big Ben and visit Oxford University.

My resolutions for the new year are to hopefully make drum major for the next marching season coming up, and make all state band.
